Extraordinary one of a kind log home in Southern Colorado foothills. This meticulously maintained home has endless possibilities. It is a fabulous home that has a wow factor. Perfect for living full-time in a beautiful Colorado setting. This spacious home could also be perfect for a vacation home or a telecommuting opportunity. So much space for indoor and outdoor entertainment. Perfect for the family reunion or outdoor wedding. This 35-acre site could make a nice horse property. About 12 acres of the 35 acre lot around the home are fenced in and have been mitigated for fire safety with a nice mix of meadows and well-spaced limbed up trees. Enjoy the trails in the woods of the lower 23 acres. Elk, deer and turkey abound. Over 2000 sf of covered porches in the wrap around deck. Amazing views in every direction with large windows and Bay windows that bring the outdoors inside. The rooftop deck (eagles nest) allows for beautiful views in every direction. Over $200,000 improvements in the last few years. Kitchen cabinets professionally painted (pewter green) April 2025. Every detail of the home is in immaculate condition. Home easily heats with radiant floor heat (propane) as well as a nice passive solar gain in the winter. House orientation, roof pitch and roof access allow for a good setup for active solar if one so desired to install but the extreme tight 12” laminated logs and R50 insulated roof really make heating easy. There is also a newly installed large wood stove setup with outside combustion air if you desire to heat with wood.
In addition to the oversized 2 car garage attached to the house is a detached 2 car garage. Another building is a nicely done pavilion that serves as an RV cover or could just be used for additional covered parking. Another outbuilding is a 1 room cottage (no plumbing) that could be an artist/writers studio or a host of other possibilities. There is also a log sided storage shed. No matter what the Weather, all the covered porches and decks allow you to find a warm deck, or cool deck, or get out of the wind on a windy day. East and West decks each have a pre-plumbed propane hookup for a gas grill.
The home is located on Santa Fe Trail Ranch which is a development of 450 lots each of which is 35 acres. The development runs its own private water system. Fishers Peak State Park (one of Colorado’s newest state parks and Colorado’s 2nd largest state park) is only minutes away. Trinidad Lake State Park is about 25 minutes away.
The interior of the home has spacious rooms that flow from one to the next through large log archways. Massive, handcrafted trusses carry the roof. Custom cabinets, tiled showers, custom knotty alder doors and granite tops throughout the home. Chamfered log details around windows and doors, 6” log rails in and out, large log posts, log purlins as well as many other log accoutrements make this a classic high end mountain log home.
No expense has been spared for the construction of this home. Every aspect of the construction is heavy duty. The ground floor foundation is poured in ICFs (insulated concrete forms) for an energy efficient foundation that is wrapped in native real stone. The main floor and upper floor are constructed with 12” laminated logs that were custom made for this application with 2 floors of log walls. Most handcrafted log homes and milled log homes never have this capability for a 20’ log stack. There is over 1 mile worth of these custom engineered logs in this home. Log home professionals agree that they have never seen a tighter log home. The laminated logs are straighter and more stable than other milled or handcrafted logs. Precision milled saddle notch corners make for extremely tight log corners. There are no butt joints in the log walls. The roof system above the log trusses and log purlins are SIPs (structural insulated panels) with an R50 insulation value. Above the Sips, the whole roof underlayment is ice and water shield. The home and all the outbuildings are covered with 50-year impact resistant class A roofs. Lightning protection system. All facias are wrapped with flashing for no maintenance.
The ground floor has a large gym. This room is awesome for a gym but could easily be converted to a mother-in-law apartment or many other possibilities. Home includes all kitchen appliances, extra refrigerator and freezer in ground floor pantry and refrigerator in the cottage.
Other noteworthy items about the home include 2 driveways into the property with impressive stone and log gates. Huge master bedroom suite which includes jetted tub, his and her vanities, his and her toilet closets, his and her walk-in closets, laundry room and huge walk in shower. Updated water heater and floor heat system. Plenty of closets and storage throughout. Airlock entryway. Huge open Great room. Large loft space on the upper floor. Pre plumbed propane fire pit in the courtyard. Finished attached garage has built in shelving and cabinets. Excellent cell coverage. High speed internet. Low property taxes. Extensive trail system.
